Terms of Use

Introduction:

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Legends software and the gitlegends.com website (“Site”). By using the Site or the Legends software (collectively, the “Services”), you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use our Services. These Terms are intended to outline your rights and responsibilities, as well as ours, in plain language. The Legends software is open-source and distributed under its own license (MIT License), which grants you broad rights to use and modify the software; these Terms focus primarily on use of the website and any related services or content.

Use of the Website and Services:

  • Eligibility: You may use the Site and Legends software if you are able to form a binding contract in your jurisdiction (typically, if you are 18 or older, or have parental consent if required). By using our Services, you represent that you meet the applicable age requirements.
  • User Conduct: When accessing gitlegends.com or using Legends, you agree to use the Services only for lawful purposes. You must not: attempt to disrupt or interfere with the Site’s functioning, attempt to gain unauthorized access to any systems or data, or engage in any activity that harms the project maintainers or other users. You also agree not to use the Site to post or transmit any malicious code, content that is illegal or offensive, or spam. Further guidelines on acceptable usage are outlined in our Acceptable Use Policy below.
  • Legends Software License: The Legends application’s source code is released under the MIT open-source licenseGitHub. This means you are free to use, copy, modify, and distribute the software, subject to the terms of the MIT License. Nothing in these Terms of Use is intended to limit your rights under the open-source license. However, when you use the Legends software, you do so at your own risk and responsibility. The software is provided “as is” without warranty (see Disclaimers below). For more details on licensing, see the Attribution/OSS License Summary section.
  • Content on the Site: All content published on gitlegends.com (including text, logos, graphics, and documentation) is owned by the Legends project maintainers (© 2023-2025 Boris Karaoglanov, or other contributors where noted) unless otherwise indicated. We grant you permission to view, download, and temporarily cache copies of site materials for personal use and for purposes of using or contributing to the Legends project. However, you may not republish, redistribute, or sell the content from the Site without our prior written consent, except for any code snippets or documentation explicitly made available under an open license. Where we have provided content under an open license (for example, code examples under the Legends repository), you must adhere to the terms of that license.
  • User Contributions: At this time, the Legends website does not offer public forums or user-generated content features (e.g., there are no blog comment sections or user accounts on the site). If in the future we allow contributions (such as posting comments or editing wiki/documentation pages), you agree that any content you contribute will be your own or you have the rights to share it, and it will not violate any third-party rights or laws. You would also likely be asked to license those contributions under terms compatible with the open-source nature of the project (for example, by agreeing that your documentation contributions are published under a CC-BY license, or that code contributions are under the project’s MIT license).

Disclaimers:

  • “As Is” Basis: The Legends software and website are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. While we strive for accuracy and reliability, we make no warranties or representations of any kind, express or implied, about the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of the Services. This includes, but is not limited to, warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or that use of the Services will be uninterrupted or error-free.
  • No Professional Advice: Any information (for example, guides or tutorials on using Legends) provided on the Site is for general informational purposes. It does not constitute professional advice. You should independently verify any information before relying on it, especially for critical operations.
  • External Links: The Site may contain links to third-party websites or resources (for example, a link to the GitHub repository or documentation). Such links are provided for convenience only. We do not endorse and are not responsible for the content or practices of any third-party sites. Your use of third-party websites is subject to their terms and policies, not ours.

Limitation of Liability:

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Boris Karaoglanov and the Legends project team shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages arising out of or in connection with your use of the Legends software or website. This includes, for example, damages for loss of profits, data loss, or other intangible losses, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total liability for any claims arising from use of the Services is limited to the amount (if any) you have paid us for the use of the Services or the software (note: the software is free and open-source, and the website is free to access, so typically no such payments are made). Because some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations of liability, some of these limitations may not apply to you. In such cases, our liability will be limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.

Indemnification:

(Applicable if you misuse the Services) You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Boris Karaoglanov and any other Legends contributors or affiliates from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) that arise from your violation of these Terms or your misuse of the Legends software or site. This means if you cause harm or violate someone’s rights while using our Services, you may be responsible for the costs.

Termination and Suspension:

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the Site or related services at any time, without notice, if we believe you have violated these Terms or engaged in behavior that is harmful to the site or project (for example, attempting to hack the site or spamming our contact address). In general, since we don’t have user accounts, “termination” simply means we might block your IP or take technical measures to prevent misuse. The Legends open-source software, being community-driven, cannot be “terminated” in the same way – you will always have access to the code under the open-source license, but we might revoke certain privileges (like contribution rights to the repository) if necessary to protect the project.

Governing Law:

These Terms of Use shall be governed and interpreted in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction of the project maintainer’s residence (unless otherwise required by local law in your jurisdiction). Currently, the project is maintained by Boris Karaoglanov. If any dispute arises out of or relating to these Terms or your use of the Services, and if it cannot be resolved amicably, it will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts in the maintainer’s jurisdiction, unless applicable law mandates otherwise. We commit to operating in good faith under applicable data protection and consumer protection laws, and nothing in these Terms is intended to override any rights you have under those laws.

Changes to the Terms:

We may modify these Terms from time to time. The most current version will always be posted on this page, with the “Last Updated” date. Changes typically occur when we add new features to the site or software or need to address new legal requirements. If you continue to use the Site or Legends software after changes to the Terms are posted, you will be deemed to have accepted the updated Terms. If you do not agree with the changes, you should discontinue use of the Services.

Contact and Notices:

If you have any questions about these Terms or need to contact us for any reason related to your use of Legends, please email us at contact@gitlegends.com. Formal legal notices can be sent to the same email address, and/or to the postal address listed in the Contact & Imprint section. We prefer to resolve issues informally and in a friendly manner. These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding use of the Legends website and software (aside from the open-source software license and other specific policies referenced), and supersede any prior agreements or communications relating to the subject matter.

By using the Legends website or software, you acknowledge that you have read and understood these Terms of Use and agree to be bound by them. Thank you for using Legends and being part of our open-source community!
